Okay, so calling myself a “gamer” is probably a bit of a stretch, but I do enjoy a good video game from time to time. I love first-person shooters (especially when I’m shooting at zombies), so it probably comes as no surprise that my favorite game is Left 4 Dead II. Never in my life did I imagine myself sitting in front of my computer wearing a headset while playing a co-op first-person shooter with my brother and my friends, but Left 4 Dead (I & II) turned me into a total gamer geek.

Despite my preference for shooting zombies with an assault rifle, I decided to try my hand at the latest iteration of Mortal Kombat and found myself really enjoying the challenge of learning combos and special moves (Scorpion is my character of choice, in case you were wondering). A lot of annoying squealing happens when I play, especially when I execute a move that requires three or more buttons (yeah, yeah, REAL gamers laugh all you want).

Just when I thought my gaming experience couldn’t get any better, I hear an announcement that my new-found appreciation for Mortal Kombat will be joined by my love for campy horror: Freddy Krueger joins the cast of Mortal Kombat August 9. I nearly peed myself.

Freddy’s character will feature two fatalities, an arcade ladder story ending, and a full move set. They also gave him a second glove to keep him competitive with his other combatants. The character design looks a little too much like the Freddy from the 2010 remake¬†for my tastes, but I’ll get over it if it means experiencing the joy of a fatality Freddy Krueger-style. Freddy will be available on Microsoft Xbox Live for 400 Microsoft Points or for download as a part of the Season Pass program or for $4.99 on PlayStation Network.
